The Society for Ethnomusicology (SEM)

Ethnomusicology is a major discipline for the study Chinese music in North America. Most Chinese music scholars attend the SEM annual meeting in the United States and publish their articles in the journals. 

 

Association for Chinese Music Research (ACMR)

An annual meeting is held in conjunction with the Society for Ethnomusicology. Each issue of its Newsletter includes a Chinese Music Bibliography featuring updated publications and dissertations & theses.

 

European Foundation for Chinese Music Research (CHIME)

Founded by European music scholars, it holds meetings, publishes journals and books on Chinese

 

International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM)

It is an overseas organization emphasis on studying and preserving traditional music. A biannual conference is held in different parts of the world. The journal of Yearbook for Traditional Music publishes annually.

 

The Study Group for Musics of East Asian

It is a regional sub-group divided from the ICTM.

 

Chinese National Academy of Arts  中國藝術研究院

It includes Institutes of Chinese Music and Chinese Opera which provide the past and latest news on Chinese music and opera in China. The library of the Academy collects invaluable music collection, such as books, manuscripts, audio-visual materials and musical instruments.
